and flipped into a drainage creek. the driver was taken to santa rosa memorial hospital. >> happening now, sentencing is underway for the man convicted of killing two people at the toll plaza 3 1/2 years ago. the 49-year-old who is representing himself in court right now says that he will probably die in prison of natural causes because there is no such thing as the death penalty in california. he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and a man he thought was her lover at the toll plaza back in 2009. he says he has no regret because it is "all in the past." this morning a judge denied the motion for a new trial. >> also happening now a search is underway for a missing woman who walked away from an independent living facility. this is the 64-year-old woman. she was last seen tuesday morning on the way to church with a group when she disappeared. she may have been spotted in oakland yesterday. she has left the facility in the past but she has never been gone this long. >> right now, algerian state news is reporting 12 algerians and foreigners are known dead in hostage stand off. today is the th

right now cooling off. 48 degrees in santa rosa, mid 50s san francisco and mid 40s wall net creek and 47 right now in livermore. we have partly cloudy skies out there, seeing a few high clouds roll in, drifts from this low pressure center, i should say trough right here that will actually bring us some rain. it's been about a week and half. we've been dry for sometime but we'll see the changes move in and it will be early as wednesday morning. let me pick it up here at this hour. you can see the high clouds over the bay area. they will be gone tomorrow morning. we'll wake up with high clouds and temperatures very similar to where we've been. so it will be another chilly start. tuesday afternoon we begin to see the clouds increase and then by wednesday morning looks like the morning drive is going to be mainly dry. but as we get into the 9:00, 10:00-hour it's moving into the north edge of the county. it wants to stay north. you can see we're into wednesday evening and this system exiting the area. so a few sprinkles expected, perhaps traces over the south bay, the north bay will see measu

inland. today still chilly 27 degrees in santa rosa but generally these temperatures up a few degrees from yesterday. and well, it's going to warm up nicely toward the afternoon. high pressure sticking around through the weekend. a lot of sunshine coming our way. this afternoon warming up to 63 in san jose, 62 in santa rosa and about 63 degrees in redwood city. more on that weekend forecast coming up. right now let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> thank you, lawrence. at 4:37 this morning, overall big picture we're doing okay. here's a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. there is some roadwork this morning. they usually wrap up at 5:00 but a couple of lanes are blocked on the incline section heading into san francisco. but traffic is so light there is not much of a delay at all but you will see it out there as you make your way towards treasure island. this is one accident we're following eastbound 4 approaching 242. this is heading into concord. so just a heads up. there's also some roadwork in lanes across that stretch and the eastbound

57 off that high of 60. oakland you're at 61. the warmest spot san francisco at 62. santa rosa 57 degrees. it will be chilly tonight. concord down to 33. santa rosa 31. napa 32. get used to that lows around freezing watch out for that black ice especially around 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning. radar clear once again. we are dry in santa rosa. look at the difference from year to year. you had a foot of rainfall in december. now as we start off 2013, one half of one inch of rain for january that's about it. there's a big reason for it. it is that big dome of high pressure sitting over the west coast shoving that storm track north of the canadian border. that's where they are going to see rain in british columbia. nowhere close to the bay area. so the storm track stays there. and the center of high pressure stays here. here being right over top of the bay area which means we'll level off in the low to mid-60s for highs. couple of degrees milder tomorrow compared to today and that's where we are going to stay through tuesday of next week. so watch

any cloud cover but we are cold with 30 in santa rosa, good morning napa, 3 is for you. the delta and concord. 36 san jose with 52 half moon bay and 32 gilroy. compared to yesterday morning, we are just about the same. maybe a degree cooler or warmer, depending on where you are. overall we are looking at the stable, chilly temperatures in the morning and then for the afternoon numbers just on the other side of the low to mid-60s. 4-mile visibility around santa rosa. the high surf advisory once again today through 4:00 and then mild afternoon temperatures through tuesday. we will look for this big ridge of high pressure eventually to break down after tuesday. here's a look at the high surf advisory with the swells beginning to build, 8 feet outside san francisco and half moon bay. perhaps up to 20 feet this afternoon with strong rip currents and large breaking waves possible. we have the surface high to the east of us over novato and the flow around the high, the clockwise flow, allowing for the offshore winds once again today. so with that, a little breezy at times. that air mass

be down to the 20s again if the santa rosa area. 37 degrees still chilly in san jose. almost 50 in san francisco. fairly mild at the coast. but mild is going to be the word to talk about this afternoon. sunshine all the way to the beaches. it will be a little hazy. but beautiful weather in fact these numbers running above the average for this time of year. usually we're in the 50s and low 60s. today as much as 6 degrees above average at 63 in santa rosa. should be about 65 degrees in san jose. that's five degrees above normal and 62 degrees in san francisco. i think that weather is going to hold through the weekend. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> thanks, lawrence. and outside right now, this is our problem spot. it's in san mateo county. if you are traveling southbound 280 right around vista point or a little past highway 92, there's an accident involving several deer. they were maybe doing a traffic break in the area. they are working to clear it now. so southbound 280 may be a little slow once you get past 92 through san mateo county.

. santa rosa 54. livermore 50. oakland warm at 59. concord currently 52 so we are on that climb upward towards 60 degrees. radar is clear, nothing on cbs 5 hi-def doppler. get used to that. it's going to be that way for a while. also get used to chilly nights. no more freeze warnings or frost advisories. but with clear skies, it's january, long nights, it will be chilly. fairfield at 30, 32 concord and livermore, 29 santa rosa, chilly in san francisco with a low of 43 degrees. but it's all due to a ridge of high pressure. it's not allowing any storm to get within let's say 800 or 900 miles of san francisco and the bay area. look at where the storm track is up toward juno, alaska and it's not coming anywhere close to us soon. so we are just going to monitor where that ridge of high pressure is going. right now it's just off to our west. it's attracting an east wind. it's strong, that offshore wind. as high pressure moves closer slowly the atmosphere will continue to warm up. we'll be dry and mild through the holiday weekend into next week. i don'

in the low to mid-60s. of concord right now, 36. santa rosa, 36, but the humidity level has increased. san francisco, the warm spot at 49. lows down to freezing for concord, san francisco likely staying in the 40s tonight. pacifica, 43. and san jose dropping down to 36. no rain dropping from the sky. cbs 5 doppler is mainly dry. a huge ridge of high pressure, there's been one somewhere over the country over the past month or so, but it hasn't been over the top of us. that's changing. the high is centered very close to us. that'll keep air quality iffy over the next couple days but it will allow the atmosphere to warm up a little more every day. and many of you will likely hit the 60s in the south bay tomorrow. rest of us getting into the 60s over the weekend and staying there well into next week. if you like sunshine, it's your kind of forecast. nights will be clear though. things will be chilly at night. we'll level off in the low 60s, and that poor air quality will stick around into next week. sunnyvale, are 64, hayward, 62. antioch and pittsburgh, 58 for you. downtown san francisco, 57.
